I had a call with an inventor yesterday and here's what stood out... Before we even got into his product he told me he had been going through Amazon reviews on competing products. Reading the 3 star and below complaints to understand what real customers hated about what was already out there. I had to stop him right there. That is how you are supposed to do this. Most inventors ask their friends and family if the idea is good. And every single time their friends and family tell them it is amazing. Real validation comes from strangers who already bought something similar and were annoyed enough to write about it publicly. That is your free focus group. It has been sitting there the whole time. We spent the call building his positioning strategy around those complaints. What the market is missing becomes what your product delivers. That is the work I love doing with inventors. It is also why I built uinvent.ai. So inventors can do this kind of thinking before they spend a dollar on anything else. Start with the complaints. Build from there. Reply, like, share, if you know an inventor who needs to hear this!
